Staying Focused

1 Kings 11:1-43 describes how Solomon’s selfishness, disobedience, lust of the flesh, and defiance led to him turning away from his calling as Israel’s king, and ultimately caused the majority of the kingdom to be taken away from his lineage and given to his servants. The Lord explicitly admonishes in Exodus 20:3 and Deuteronomy 5:7 that humanity is to have no other gods before Him, and not to make any graven images [or idols] for worship.

Tweet In 2 Chronicles 1:7-12, God appeared to King Solomon, son of King David, and told him to "Ask for whatever you want me to give you." Solomon could have asked for ANYTHING he wanted - wealth, long life, power, anything - and what did he ask God for? WISDOM! And God being the just and faithful God was so pleased that King Solomon asked for wisdom to govern God's people, that he was given GREAT wisdom and knowledge. But God didn't stop there.

Tweet On May 16, 2010, a Hail Storm Hits Oklahoma City, a storm unlike anything many of us have ever seen. As you watch the video, consider all the disasters and turmoil, natural and man-made, that this world has experienced recently - earthquakes, volcanos, tornadoes, riots, economic meltdown, lack of compassion, greed, the oil gushing in the Gulf of Mexico, etc. The Bible warns of these types of events in Matthew 24. In Guatemala, at this very moment, a volcano is errupting and fears of impending rain add to the concerns of a disaster on top of a disaster. [UPDATE: On Tuesday, June 1, a massive 300'-deep sinkhole opened up in Guatemala, resultant of the above-mentioned rains]. Can it be any more obvious that we are not in control - that God is? I have NEVER seen anything like what happened in the video linked above.
